What distinguishes a surrogate pregnancy from a natural one?

A surrogate pregnancy progresses in the same way as any pregnancy achieved through IVF. The medical procedures and monitoring are identical to those used in natural pregnancies, and the process follows established medical protocols.

How is the embryo transfer process performed for a surrogate mother?

Where will the surrogate mother stay during the program?

Our Center requires surrogate mothers to stay in Abu Dhabi from the time of embryo transfer until delivery. The accommodations provided are fully furnished and equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay, including bedding, household appliances, and wireless internet.

Can the surrogate mother have family visits during the pregnancy?

Surrogate mothers are allowed to live with one of their children during the pregnancy. However, the presence of additional family members is not permitted in the accommodations, as it may disrupt the comfort and well-being of other surrogates in the program.

Can intended parents request specific conditions for the surrogate mother?

All the obligations of the surrogate mother are outlined in a legally binding agreement, which is verified by a notary. Any special requests from intended parents must comply with legal and ethical standards and will require notarial approval before being included in the contract.

Who is responsible for covering the cost of food and medication for the surrogate mother?

Each surrogate mother receives a monthly allowance to cover enhanced nutrition, and all necessary medications are provided by our Center.

Are sexual relations allowed during a surrogate pregnancy?

Once a surrogate mother has completed the required medical tests and entered the program, sexual activity is strictly prohibited. This is to minimize the risk of sexually transmitted infections, gynecological complications, and potential harm to the pregnancy and baby. Intercourse may also cause uterine contractions, which could lead to a miscarriage. Adherence to this guideline is essential, and the surrogate mother is responsible for following the prescribed medical instructions.

Can the intended parents refuse to take the child after birth?

In the UAE, the intended parents are legally recognized as the child’s parents from the moment of birth. Abandoning the child is not permitted and carries serious legal consequences for the parents.
